The "Jefe Cafetero" is located in the center of western Colombia and is part of the Andean Region, located above the Western and Central Cordilleras. In 2016 Pereira was declared the capital of the Eje Cafetero. The climatic and geological conditions of this region favor the production of high quality coffee with quite short harvesting periods. The peasants in the area have developed excellent cultivation, harvesting and processing techniques "grain for grain" and have maintained this form of transformation despite new intensive industrial techniques. The famous "Juan Valdez" advertising icon, created by the National Federation of Cafeteros de Colombia, featured as a typical Colombian farmer of coffee plantations, with his sombrero and the poncho, always accompanied by his mule, has become a triumph of advertising communication. In 2005 in the United States Juan Valdez was considered the most popular advertising image among the inhabitants of this country.
This particular tour is a bamboo handicraft raft ride along the La Vieja River. The rapids and waterfalls will make your trip an unforgettable emotion.
Rafting on a bamboo raft along Rio La Vieja. To get to the starting point we will use a Willys, typical jeep of this area. We will arrive at Puerto Alejandrìa or Puerto Samaria where we will climb on a craft raft that will carry us along the river. During the journey we will stop at a waterfall; half way around we will take a break to lunch with the typical dish of the region "fiambre en hoja de platano" (banana leaf filled with rice, cassava, potato, banana, spice, chicken ...). The tour continues having a good coffee; the tour ends at Piedras de Moler where we will be waiting for the means to return to our hotels.
